Of the hundreds of free movie download websites available on the internet, public domain movies should be your go-to so that there’s no question about their legality. PublicDomainMovie.net is a great source for these kinds of films.

When a movie is public domain, it means the copyright is no longer held by any one individual—the public owns the movie. In other words, you can watch and download the films as many times as you like, completely legally.

There are a handful of genres along the top of the site to help you find the dramas, horrors, comedies, etc., among the several hundreds of movies that are offered here. Every movie page shows the film’s cover image, release date, synopsis, and cast list.

I like that I can stream these movies directly from the website for a preview of what I’m getting before I start the download. However, I don’t like all the ads. There are actually loads of them all over the place; fortunately, they aren’t included in the videos themselves.

The link below takes you to the films section specifically, but once you’re there, you can filter by century, genre, theme, and type. For example, maybe you’re looking for 20th century movies, or only shorts or silent films, or movies that fall under the food, architecture, or natural world theme.

Everything here can be streamed. The movie download links are on the bottom of each page.

Internet Archive is a trove of digital information. It has not only movies for download, but also software, web pages, books, and more. Like the above two sites, this one offers free movie downloads because they’re in the public domain.

There are lots of categories here where you might find movies, so the link below, which takes you to Feature Films, is just one example. There are tens of thousands of free films in over a dozen languages.

Most if not all the movies from the sites listed above are actually sourced from Internet Archive, but I prefer those movie download sites over this one because there’s just too much to sift through here. Still, I like to use this website for its filtering options, which can include language, creator, year, topic, and more.

Another way to download movies is through the Library of Congress. According to the LOC, the purpose of this list of movies is to “showcase the range and diversity of American film heritage.”

They’re a selection of films from the National Film Registry (NFR), which is a collection of movies selected by the United States National Film Preservation Board.

A couple of things I like about downloading movies here is that the website is ad-free and all the options are on a single page because there are only a couple dozen movies to pick from.

These titles can be downloaded directly from the Library of Congress’ website in formats like MP4 and MOV.

Netflix is one example of a subscription service that lets you save its movies and TV shows to a download portion of the app so you can watch even without an internet connection.

As a long-time Netflix user, this is an obvious choice for me when I want to save a movie offline. If you don’t use Netflix, there are several other, similar options listed below.

Streaming services like Netflix don’t give you the video file to save wherever you want. You can only download the movie in their approved app, which helps them control further copying or burning to discs.

Khatu Shyam Temple Story

Before the beginning of the Mahābhārata battle, Barbarika’s last wish was to see the war “Mahabharat” so Lord krishna himself placed his head on the top of a mountain for Barbarika to see the war. Many years after Kali Yuga started, the head was found buried in the village of Khatoo (Sikar district) in present-day Rajasthan. The location was obscured until well after the Kali Yuga period began. Then, on one occasion, milk started flowing spontaneously out of a cow’s udder when she neared the burial spot. Amazed at this incident, the local villagers dug the place up and the buried head was revealed. The head was handed over to a Brahmin who worshipped it for many days, awaiting divine revelations as to what was to be done next. Roopsingh Chauhan, king of Khatu, then had a dream where he was inspired to build a temple and install the head therein. Subsequently, a temple was built and the idol was installed on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (bright half) of the month of Phalgun.

There is another, only slightly different version of this legend. Roopsingh Chauhan was the ruler of Khatu. His wife, Narmada Kanwar, once had a dream in which the deity instructed her to take his image out of the earth. The indicated place (now known as Shyam Kund) was then dug up. Sure enough, it yielded the idol, which was duly enshrined in the temple.

The original temple was built in 1027 AD by Roopsingh Chauhan, after his wife Narmada Kanwar, saw dream about the buried idol. The place where the idol was dug out from is called Shyam Kund.^[1] In 1720 AD, a nobleman known as Diwan Abhaisingh renovated the old temple, at the behest of the then ruler of Marwar. The temple took its present shape at this time and the idol was enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum. The idol is made of rare stone. Khatushyam is the family deity of many families.

Another temple is located at Lambha, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. People bring their newly born children to have blessings of Khatushyam. Here he is known as Baliya Dev.^{[citation needed]}

The history of Holi can be traced back to various mythological stories and legends, with one of the most popular being the tale of Holika and Prahlad. According to Hindu mythology, there was a demon king named Hiranyakashipu who wanted everyone to worship him as a god. However, his own son, Prahlad, was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Angered by his son’s devotion, Hiranyakashipu attempted to kill Prahlad several times, but each time he was saved by divine intervention.

Finally, Hiranyakashipu enlisted the help of his sister, Holika, who was immune to fire. She sat on a pyre with Prahlad in her lap, intending to burn him alive. But due to his unwavering devotion, Prahlad emerged unharmed while Holika was consumed by the flames. This event symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the burning of Holika is celebrated as Holi.

Another legend associated with Holi is the love story of Lord Krishna and Radha. According to folklore, the mischievous young Krishna, who had a dark complexion, complained to his mother about Radha’s fair skin. His mother, Yashoda, playfully suggested that he could apply color on Radha’s face to change her complexion. Inspired by this, Krishna and his friends would playfully throw colored powders and water at Radha and the other gopis (milkmaids) during the spring season, thus initiating the tradition of playing with colors during Holi.

Over time, Holi has evolved into a community celebration filled with music, dance, and the throwing of vibrant colored powders known as “gulal.” People come together to forget past grievances, forgive each other, and renew relationships. It’s a time when social barriers are broken down, and people of all backgrounds come together to celebrate the spirit of unity and love.

In addition to the colorful celebrations, special foods and sweets are prepared, bonfires are lit to commemorate the burning of Holika, and traditional rituals are performed in temples and homes. Holi is not only a time of joy and merriment but also a celebration of the rich cultural heritage and diversity of India.

Holi is celebrated over two days, with the first day marked by the lighting of bonfires on the eve of the festival, known as Holika Dahan. People gather around the bonfires, perform rituals, and offer prayers to commemorate the victory of good over evil.

The second day of Holi is known as Rangwali Holi, during which people gather in public spaces and streets to engage in the playful throwing of colored powders and water. It is a time for socializing, dancing, singing, and enjoying festive foods and drinks. Traditional sweets like gujiya and thandai are prepared and shared among friends and family.
